Washington State Association of School Psychologists in conjunction with ESD 189 is proud to present two workshops geared toward school administrators and School Psychologists. These presentations were developed by Carl D. Corbin, General Counsel, of the public law firm School and College Legal Services of California. Mr. Corbin is a nationally recognized speaker and comes with excellent recommendations for both his content knowledge and presentation style.  

Workshops

1.  LEGALLY DEFENSIBLE PRACTICES REGARDING MANIFESTATION DETERMINATIONS
9:00am-11:30am

The objectives of this presentation will be to review the laws and regulations pursuant to the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (“IDEA”) with a detailed discussion of discipline for special education students and the appropriate completion of a manifestation determination meeting.  The workshop will be delivered through use of a Power Point presentation along with supplemental materials to include excerpts from legal decisions.

2.  LEGALLY DEFENSIBLE PRACTICES REGARDING SECTION 504 OF THE REHABILITATION ACT OF 1973
12:30pm-3:00pm

The objectives of this presentation will be to review the laws, regulations, and legal decisions regarding Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (“Section 504”).  The workshop will be delivered through use of a Power Point presentation along with supplemental materials to include excerpts from legal decisions.  The presentation should answer most common questions school psychologists, school administrators, school nurses, etc. have regarding Section 504 issues to include eligibility, assessment, and services.
